PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The publication and exhibition Wij Zijn Natuur (We Are Nature) is inspired by the ideology of Princess
Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld. Through this publication and accompanying exhibition, she once again calls
our attention to the deep bond between humans and nature. She feels that human beings have placed
themselves outside of and above nature, with all the consequences that entails. The works on display—from artists
including Henrique Oliveira, Jackie Mulder, Tomáš Libertíny, Sun-Hyuk Kim, Tony Matelli and Tineke van der Pouw Kraan—act as windows, offering us an intimate glimpse of the interconnected nature of all life. It is a serene journey that transports us to a world
of tranquillity and time for reflection, and which invites us to rediscover our place within nature.

This book consists of multiple layers of reading, ranging from photographic art images and selected crops to texts on Irene's philosophy and interviews with the artists. The philosophical text layer is woven as a smaller book within the book, which is divided into nature types such as fossils, mycelium, and water. Within each chapter, a loose flow of images literally flows and merges into each other through the edges. The cover features a screen-printed finish of glossy, transparent material, which is an imprint of mycelium. The choice of an open spine and the thick, yellowish paper emphasizes the connection and openness of nature and defies the standard pattern of a museum catalog.
