PROJECT DESCRIPTION

On the Edges of Graphic Design from A—Z—∞ celebrates the past, present, and future of alternative Graphic Design by the hands and minds of a multidisciplinary and international design community, their practices, reflections and community-building experiences at A—Z Presents, the Space for Experimental Graphic Design based in Berlin.

The book offers a comprehensive view of A—Z activities performed by a multitude of graphic designers and visual artists from diverse back­grounds, ages, and career standings in the past six years. It also covers the continuity of the space, extended by how a group of international designers envision the future of the discipline of Graphic Design.

The first part, A—Z, printed in yellow, features all activities and events initiated by A—Z. In alphabetical cross-referenced entries, from the designers and exhibitors, like Na Kim, The Rodina, Patrick Thomas, Lucienne Roberts etc., to a myriad of related topics, from “Asemic Writing” to “Yellow Bench”, and well over a hundred entries in between.

The second part, titled —∞, printed in silver, features 36 international designers invited to envision the future of Graphic Design and how they could be enacted in a transdisciplinary space like A—Z. The contributions from designers including April Greiman, Richard Niessen, Golnar Kat-Rahmani, Luna Maurer, Silvio Lorusso, Loraine Furter etc., range from reflections on the body in digital space and AI to interspecies relationships and diverse languages, among many others.

The richly illustrated publication furthermore features an introduction by Jason Grant (Inkahoots) and a conversation between publisher Freek Lomme and Anja Lutz.
