PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Everything and Nothing at All by Jenny Heijun Wills is a poignant memoir that delves into themes of identity, family, and belonging.
The title itself evokes a sense of duality. My choice of typography: clean, understated and unobtrusive allowing the cover's imagery and symbolism to take centre stage. The distortion of the flowers and the word “essays” smeared like running mascara after a good cry are intended to capture the emotional complexities of what it means to reconcile different parts of oneself and the fluidity of identity. The cover design invites the reader into the author’s powerful and intimate personal essays: those of migration, displacement, isolation and the shifting spaces between cultures, personal experiences and the fragmented nature of memory and identity.
Overall, the cover reflects the nuanced nature of the book itself, offering a visual interpretation of the contradictions woven throughout the narrative, while also remaining visually open to interpretation.
