PROJECT DESCRIPTION
For this design, I concentrated on creating typography that is as cheeky, loud, perhaps naïve, and definitely lively/dynamic as possible, which borrows from comics (the boy draws superheroes), yet stands on its own. It is powerful, yet there is also a lot of irritation in it: it is round and pointed at the same time, every letter is different, it has a certain humor, but also seems to be out of balance. It doesn't stand on a straight line (no solid ground underfoot), which makes it seem unstable, but the type block as a whole stabilizes itself from within in the three lines - which is perhaps also how you could look at the main character of the book: despite all the irritating circumstances, he has a lot of courage, strength and wit and always finds his way around in some way.
I think that conveys a lot for a pure type design.
And yes, the copper stands for the red hair.
Embossed hard cover, printed endpapers, ribbon marker.
