PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This is not an ordinary book about Dior. It is not telling a story on Dior's history from A to Z, but on the fashion designs itself. Fashion experts look with a fresh eye at more than 40 creations by Dior and talk about the makers, the wearers, the technique, the conservation, the publicity and important women for Dior.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first female creative director for Dior, is known for her feminism and the platform she offers to female artists. That is why Dutch photographer Vivianne Sassen was asked to create a photo series in which the work of Christian Dior and Maria Grazia Chiuri are the focus-point and one became the key-image for the cover of the book.
The cover material has a fabric “Dior” feel and look and it soft and white. This material is glued on deep black cardboard that is cut so the contrast is visible on the sides of the book. To continue with the contrast the inside cover pages are also black paper with a white illustration print of tarot cards that are part of a design of Christian linking it to his spirituality. The silky inside paper had a special treatment with magenta so it has the pink Dior colour all over. The backside of the book carries a large and vertically positioned quote by Maria Grazia Chiuri about femininity and makes it a graphic back cover, that is as pleasing as the front.
