PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The book "Ultra-Avant-Garde. Koło Klipsa and the Poznań Underground of the 1980s" is a catalogue of an exhibition that took place at the National Museum in Poznań last year. The publication begins with a visual essay introducing the atmosphere of the 80s: black and white images, raw industrial exhibition spaces, expressive sculptures and artistic installations, characteristic fashion.
The catalogue, like the exhibition, contains two parallel narratives. The first one concerns the artistic achievements and activities of the Koło Klipsa group in the 80s. The second consists primarily of reprints of archival materials from the punk and alternative music scene: posters, photographs, cassette covers, zines and other important documents. A different paper and a different type of graphic composition were used for each of these narratives.
The main assumption of the project was to reconcile both of these stories in a light and accessible form that would refer to some extent to the austerity of that era.
