PROJECT DESCRIPTION
“About Face” is a unique survey of 350 artworks by a global and diverse array of LGBTQ+ artists—many under-recognized and overlooked—from the last 50 years.
The publication’s typographic approach was inspired by protest signs from the Stonewall era—bold, assertive, and demanding visibility. The book’s content is divided into five conceptual chapters, each of which is demarcated by a bold duotone red image detail. As the reader turns the page, the image spans the divider, revealing more of the work.
Each artist is contextualized with a short introduction, followed by their work arranged across an organized grid system. The multiple essays employ a similar grid system to create strong and bold spreads with an economy of means.
