PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Iwan Baan is one of today’s leading photographers of architecture and the built environment. Baan’s photographs document the growth of global megacities as well as traditional and informal architecture all around the world. He is known primarily for images that narrate the life and interactions that occur within architecture. His observant eye presents architecture not as an abstract ideal, but as the setting of everyday life, an organic part of the urban fabric – be it suburban sprawl or the booming metropoles of Africa and Asia. The book gives an insight and overview of this versatile and extensive oeuvre. It is structured in four chapters which includes the beginnings in China, portrays of buildings by prominent contemporary architects, as well as photographs of vernacular and informal architecture all around the world. Every part has its own character by a slightly different layout that mesh with the specific topic. The binding refers to Baan’s unaffected way of documenting the urban space.
