PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The artworks of Essence of Nature arise from experiments with color and monoprint techniques and this has literally been translated into the graphic production of this book. Digital printing and offset printing were combined to get as close as possible to the original colors and to ensure that the surface structure matches the different works. The transparent paper refers directly to a type of rice paper on which monotypes are made alternating with white, gray and pink paper, also resulting from original background colors.

The cover contains the largest work with a shade of blue that Herma de Wit herself made for her work. The classification follows a certain structure of color experiment and phases within Herma de Wit's research. Interspersed with texts and poetry that are about the journey of the found 'remains' of nature and that act as an inspiration for her work.

This book is experimenting with various print-colours; CMYK, PMS and metallics on different colored papers and new techniques of mono-printing are explored. It is printed partly digitally and partly offset and bound with an open spine into 148 pages including a double uncoated cover with embossed texts on both sides. The book has written contributions by poet Maartje Wortel, philosopher Piet van Bragt and art critic Marina Aarts.
