PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The cover artwork pays homage to and draws inspiration from early hip-hop party flyers created in the Bronx in the 1970s. This book chronicles the rise of America's most popular music genre over the last 50 years, with a focus on the groundbreaking DJs and artists who pushed boundaries and pioneered a new sound. The promotional flyers for parties and events hosted in New York's boroughs provides a rich visual language of expressive imagery and eclectic typography, representing the culture that spread rapidly from electrifying live gatherings. The collage reflects hip-hop's earliest beginnings: the blending of genres, the remixing and chopping of samples, and the broad spectrum of inspiration and influences.
