PROJECT DESCRIPTION
"Rouge Street" is a collection of three novellas from Shuang Xuetao, a lauded young Chinese writer whose frank, fantastical short fiction has already inspired comparisons to Ernest Hemingway and Haruki Murakami. (No pressure!)
I knew that I wanted an illustrated jacket, and as soon as I saw Jocelyn Tsaih's wonderful and surreal figurative artwork, I knew it would be a perfect fit.
I love the way the final jacket creates two vantage points: simultaneously suggesting a street grid, viewed (omnisciently) from above, as all of the text becomes street names.... and also a more intimate portrait (in side elevation) of a figure imprisoned by domestic life. "Rouge Street" is the author's first book to appear in English.
