PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Navigation to Nowhere: Searching for Paris, Texas, is a meditation on existential grief and dealing with loss thru the lens of humor and art. Forty-six contributors lent their poems, stories, photography, and artwork to this colorful, edited volume that sprung forth from the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by the scene in Wim Wenders Paris, Texas, a rambling, unhinged man screams frantically: “You will all be extradited to the land of no return! It’s a navigation to nowhere! If you think that’s going to be fun, you’ve got another thing coming!”
The design system for the book and cover had to be robust to tie together the different creators and their forms of visual art; text, art, and photography. In response, we turned to the film that inspired the project and its incredible use of color and movement. Like the film, things are revealed with time and interaction.
