PROJECT DESCRIPTION

"Do Ho Suh: Portal" documents Do Ho Suh's 2015 eponymous artwork and the process of its creation. Throughout the book, the design accentuates the transparency and ghostliness of the resin piece. Mimicking how the work looks against dark backgrounds, the title type is contrasted in gloss UV ink against the matte lamination of the cover. Both gloss and matte varnishes are used in the interior to create a similar effect. The light turquoise endpapers and head and tail bands reference the colored tint in the resin material. The process section is printed on uncoated paper, which relates back to the early sketches that Do Ho Suh made during the project’s conception. The textures, varnishes, material colors, and paper types used all point to distinct qualities present in the artwork and come together to tell a complete story.
