PROJECT DESCRIPTION
"Blending poetry and memoir, conversation and performance theory, Black Body Amnesia: Poems and Other Speech Acts enlivens a personal archive of visual and verbal offerings written and organized by poet, performance artist, educator, and curator Jaamil Olawale Kosoko." Inspired by the themes of forgetting, a chameleon, and power dynamics, the book's structure subverts traditional tyographic hierarchy by making the footnotes larger than the reading text as well as shifting the orientation of the page to read clockwise. The heavier weight paper is interspersed with a translucent, bible-weight paper, playing with the idea of transparency and the Black body as a type of chameleon, as evident in Kosoko's work. The entire book is pulled together by a palette of a copper spot color intermixed with the vibrant 4-colors from Kosoko's performance work. Ghostly copper figures introduce each section and the spot copper ink overprints the black text to create a soft-buzz texture throughout the book.
