PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This memoir is a young woman's journey to understanding her complicated parents—her mother an Okinawan war bride, her father a Vietnam veteran—and her own, fraught cultural heritage and the challenges she faced growing up in an American suburb. The type was meant to simply convey these fragmented parts of the author, her adolescence, and how she rediscovered and pieced together herself.

Juror Comments
“I really love this cover. From the placement of the type, the graphic and also layered nature of the lines and letterforms themselves, but also the insertion of a tiny photo, and the use of light pastels gives you a sense of delicacy and also restraint.” —Brian Johnson
