PROJECT DESCRIPTION
"Stories of Resistance" explores artistic forms of resistance from across the world. Through visual narratives, artists amplify and bring to focus the multitude of conditions that ignite and inspire people to resist. The book’s design aims to showcase this work in a way that’s firmly contemporary, while nodding to print media historically associated with resistance movements—primarily zines and newspapers.
To that end, display type is set in Compacta, a typeface designed for Letraset in 1963. Letraset sparked a democratizing typographic movement in the 60s and 70s by allowing both professional designers and laypeople access to well-designed fonts; it gave a broader population the means to generate print media that could communicate ideas effectively and expressively.

Juror Comments
“I love the use of the grid and the images inserting themselves as resisting the usual top/bottom alignment. I love the great sense of contrast in the title/copy size comparison. The flexible, multi grid measurements are tight and well organized.” —Brian Johnson
