PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Natasha Bowdoin's Wild Eyed brings together and documents three major projects the artist has realized over the past four years: Maneater at MASS MoCA (2018), Sideways to the Sun at the Moody Center for the Arts (2019), and most recently, In the Night Garden at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (2020). These installations are accompanied by curatorial essays by Denise Markonish, Shirley Reece-Hughes, and Wendy Vogel exploring the artist's interest in and connection to the natural world, examining the role nature plays in our conception of our own humanity.
The book design stresses the the tripartite structure of the book. Each section is launched with an introductory essay, set as a two-color insert at a smaller trim size and on a lighter weight of paper, so the three markers can be grasped from the section of the book. There is a clear split between text and the artwork—between analysis and documentation. An introductory sequence shows the making of the work, while a section of full-bleed photographs documents performances held in conjunction with the installations. The book cover has a tactile quality, impressed through a four-layered blind emboss on top of the installation photograph. In tune with the separation of text and image, the book title is introduced on the back cover of the book.

“Solid achievement. Win. Love the cover as back cover. Lets the art lead. Love the use of color on the essays as separate from the art, install, and detail shots. Full win.” —Brian Johnson
