PROJECT DESCRIPTION
For this reprinted and revised edition of My Mexico, I was inspired by the original cover design from 1998 that used intricate illustrations and patterns from Jorge Enciso’s Design Motifs of Ancient Mexico (1947). I also kept in mind Kennedy’s passion for environmentalism, which led me to use this abstract plant/flower pattern that I turned and repeated to feel like rows of a garden or vines climbing up a wall. I chose a thick slab serif and bright yellow to complement Diana’s vigorous personality, while counterbalancing it with an organic, cool beige.

Juror Comments
"Not at all obvious or retro or loudly colorful or fake ethnic—this cover could have gone in a lot of easier directions but chose differently (and wisely). Nice." —Gail Anderson
