Series includes: The Awakening and Selected Stories by Kate Chopin; Passing by Nella Larsen; Before Night Falls by Reginaldo Arenas; The Yellow Wall-Paper and Selected Writings by Charlotte Perkins Gilman; Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde

These are the first five titles in an ongoing project, and is our Penguin Classics publisher Elda Rotor’s brilliant idea, to add to the classics voices that were no longer being heard, or that were not being given their proper due in publishing. My goal, as with any disparate collection of voices, was to create a proper tone for each author-each book, while designing a unified look for the series to become known as Penguin Vitae. I presented all five titles at a meeting and had prepared myself to be crushed due to their sideways nature. All five were enthusiastically approved without a single change or tweak. Sometimes the gods do smile.
