PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The work is divided into two volumes joined by a transparent dust jacket: in book one, the design explores the textures of the objects created by the artist Calu Fontes, from clay to ceramics. Parts that broke, cracked, or showed some imperfection were not discarded but incorporated into the work. Still, clippings from an illustrated diary reinforce the representation of letters and aggregated graphics, not only for the poetic meaning but also for the aesthetic construction of the word as a graphic element.
An even more experimental process is seen in book two, in which the artist's graphic works are presented. Calu used papers, stamps, graph paper, watercolor, and ink for a return to the essence. The illustrations here give way to the collage. The cuts used in the design of the spreads allow the drawings to flow to the other page and surprise the reader. The artist exposes the layers, startled by the material condition of the paper. Volumetric contrasts are visible and, in harmony with the vibrant tones, generate a visual rhythm linked to chromatic vibrations.
