PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Snacky Tunes podcast was created by Darin and Greg Bresnitz to celebrate the cultural convergence of food and music. We imagined the combination of a music, food, and design audience would be a perfect opportunity for lyrical and expressive typography. With a limited visual palette of two color and four typefaces, we developed a system of typologies to translate the cookbook’s 77 recipes, key song titles, musical playlists, playlist commentaries, and conversations/stories. This loose system of rules allowed for the controlled chaos of fleshing out the entire book while maintaining the space requirements of two spreads total per chef/chef duo. Glyphs and rule lines referenced music playlists; unique and dynamic typography mirrored the moods of the songs noted as inspiration. Listening to these songs — and looking at images of the restaurant interiors — supported each typographic expression. A fast-paced production deadline contributed to the spirit and playfulness of the book, but also provided respite from the lockdowns of the pandemic.
